Planning for a Solo Trip to Kathmandu, Nepal 2025

2025 Female Solo Nepal - Kathmandu Trip

I just bought a ticket to Kathmandu Nepal last night. I am so excited. Nepal is always on the top of my list, but I have not had a chance to visit there. This time, I plan to try extreme hiking as preparation for future adventures. I hope to achieve a medium level of hiking, although I know I cannot tackle the most extreme trails.

Flight to Kathmandu, Nepal

I am flying from Phuket to Bangkok on March 24th. I will stay at the airport or a nearby hotel overnight because my flight to Kathmandu is at 11 AM the next morning. I did not book an earlier flight from Phuket to Bangkok because I have had bad experiences with delays, and I would rather arrive a day early, even if it means being more tired, than risk missing my flight. I return from Kathmandu on March 28th at 3 PM Nepal time, arriving in Bangkok at 7:30 PM. I am flying back to Phuket the same night at 9:15 PM, and I am hoping to get home by midnight so I can go to work the next day.

Travel Plan in Kathmandu

I roughly checked YouTube and various websites about Kathmandu. It is a small capital city, and the cost of living is not very different from Thailand. Some YouTubers even recommend flying there with a minimal amount of clothing because it is inexpensive. I think I will follow this advice. For traveling around the city, I plan to buy a one-day trip through an app or website called Viator.

I checked the prices on a website for packages that take you to 7 UNESCO World Heritage Sites (Pashupati, Boudha, Swayambhu, Changu Narayan, Patan, Kathmandu, and Bhaktapur Durbar Square), which cost around USD 150. I think I will go with this option.

Accommodation

I will be in Kathmandu for 4 days and 3 nights, so I plan to stay as close to the city center as possible. I have checked the prices of both hotels and hostels on Agoda, and they are quite affordable with good reviews. I am considering these two places.

On February 22nd, I decided to book a room at The Melo Pomelo Courtyard. This decision was based on its better rating on Agoda. After reading several reviews of Flock Kathmandu on Agoda, I noticed some comments about outdated amenities, unpleasant odors, and no towels being provided. While it might not be entirely bad, the place I chose has a better overall rating. If time permits, I plan to visit Flock Kathmandu to assess it firsthand and update my blog with useful information for those searching for accommodations in Kathmandu.

Himalayas View

I am still considering whether to take a full-day hiking tour at Nagarkot. Ideally, I would prefer a half-day tour, but none are available on Viator. A full day of hiking seems excessive for me; instead, I want to spend more time exploring the city. However, Nagarkot is currently the only place where I can see the Himalayan range.

Best Months to Visit Nepal

If you have a coldness aversion like me, probably February-March are good months for you. As I google, people say these two months are less cold and the sky is still clear enough, but from April the sky is murky so we do see Himalayas from Kathmandu.
