Tioman is my favorite island in Malaysia. The way to go there is convenient enough, but it is time-consuming. The distance from KL to Mersing Jetty, the jetty for crossing to Tioman island, is only 350 km, but it takes me 5 hours to arrive. Google Map shows 4 hours, but trust me, it is impossible. The speed limit is 110/hour, and you will need to drive through a rural road is small, so it is not easy to overtake trucks there.
If you are a foreigner, and work in Malaysia, you will pay for the national park fee a little bit cheaper than foreigner tourists. You only need to show your employment pass on your passport to the authority at the national park fee counter. This time I paid 15 rm.
If you drive to the island, you can easily find a parking lot. Even though sometimes the nearest one is full, but there is always staff walking in the area to show you somewhere else near by to park your car safely. This time parked behind the building that you need to pay for the national park fee.
Best Time to Visit Tioman Island and South East Asia
The best month to travel to any island in Malaysia is from May to August, else it rains a lot. It is difficult to predict if it will rain or not and the weather forecast is not precise. If you have a plan to visit South East Asia, I would recommend you visit Vietnam-Thailand from November to April and then move to Malaysia and Bali.
